★☆★World War II Navy Veteran★☆★
James was a survivor of the sinking of the USS Indianapolis.
"Of the 1,196 aboard, about 900 made it into the water in the twelve minutes before she sank. Few life rafts were released. Most survivors wore the standard kapok life jacket. Shark attacks began with sunrise of the first day, and continued until only 316 men were still alive when rescued, almost five days later." Quoted from above site.
He suffered painfully, both physically and mentally, for the remainder of his life from the effects of being in the shark-infested sea for better than four and a half days without food and water.
James leaves behind his loving wife, Minnie Bell and sons Kenneth and twins Gary and Jerry.
He is deeply loved and missed. ❤
Many thanks to Ron Manley for the transferal of James' memorial to me.
