Benjamin Dan Awbrey, better known as Ben Awbrey, passed away in the Randolph County Hospital at 7:15 p. m. Thursday, June 21. Mr. Awbrey, 80-year-old resident of North Main St., Roanoke, had suffered a stroke on May 31.
Born in Heard County, Georgia, in 1881, the eldest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. T. B. Awbrey, he moved to Roanoke as a small child and lived here all his life. In 1912 he married Miss Hester Goutee of Cambridge, Md. He was in business in Roanoke for many years and was a member of the mercantile firm of B. D. & T. L. Awbrey.
Awbrey is survived by his wife, one son Robert B Awbrey of Bennettsville, S. C.; one daughter Mrs. Edward W. Briggs of Santa Ana,Cali, two brothers, T L (Tom) and H. P. (Pate) Awbrey, one sister; Mrs. W. A. Pool of Roanoke; and several nieces and nephews. Two sisters, Mrs. R. A. Wadsworth and Mrs. B. B. Brannon, preceded him in death.
Funeral services for Mr. Awbrey were conducted at 11 a. m. Saturday from Quattlebaum's Chapel by Rev. J. H. Harris and Rev. James Corley, with burial in Cedarwood Cemetery. Quattlebaum Brown Service Funeral Home directed.
