Charles Edward was the son of Charles Wells and Jane Smith. He was born in Overwhitacre, Warwickshire, England. He immigrated to America with his sister Minnie in 1902. They sailed from Liverpool aboard the ship "Commonwealth" on 10 April 1902 and arrived in Boston two weeks later. Charles died of pneumonia at the age of twenty-two, shortly before his parents arrived from England.
