Mrs. Rachel L Barber, 45, wife of Carroll Barber, Sr., 1221 East Institute, died unexpectedly of a heart attack today in her home.
She suffered the attack in the kitchen where her daughter, Janice, 11, found the body. The daughter called city police at 7:57 am.
Police notified a local doctor who pronounced the woman dead at the home where she had fallen after she suffered the attack.
The decedent was born in Porter county Feb. 21, 1906, a daughter of Aaron and Mary Pumroy. Her mother preceded her in death in 1927.
Lived her 29 years
She had been a resident of Valparaiso for 29 years and was a member of the First Baptist church and College City Camp, No. 3122, Royal Neighbors. The husband is president of Valparaiso Painters' union, No. 1174.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. William. Hack, Valparaiso, and Miss Janice Barber, at home; one son, Carroll Barber, Jr., Valparaiso; her father Aaron Pumroy, Kouts; three sisters, Mrs. F. C. Lansdowne, Valparaiso, Miss Alice Pumroy, New York City, and Mrs. Joseph Bird, Florida and one brother, Edwin L. Pumroy, Gary.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete. The body is at the Dykes Funeral home, 55 Jefferson. Friends may call there Wednesday afternoon.

Services for Mrs. Rachel L Barber, 45, wife of Carroll Barber, Sr., 1221 East Institute, will be held at 2 pm Friday in the Calvary Baptist church. She died in her home Tuesday morning.
Officiating will be the Rev. Joseph H. Bowers, pastor of Calvary Baptist church, and the Rev. Herman Meyer, pastor of the First Baptist church. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
Friends may call at the Dykes Funeral home, 55 Jefferson from this afternoon until services Friday.
