OBITUARY Iron River Reporter Oct 5 1967 “Death Claims Otto J. Pedo of Stambaugh”
Otto J. Pedo, 64, of 406 9th St., Stambaugh, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly Saturday afternoon at his residence. He had been in failing health for a year.
Mr. Pedo was born in Vulcan, Michigan, December 9, 1902, and attended the Vulcan schools. He came to Iron County in 1921 where he worked many years for his sister and brother-in-law in the grocery known to many as the “Gasperini Grocery” in Stambaugh. Later, he operated the Crystal Falls Bakery Shop in Crystal Falls with his brother-in-law. He entered the police force in Stambaugh for the city and worked several years. He then joined the Stambaugh School system as bus driver and maintenance man for 11 years, retiring in 1966 because of ill health. Mr. Pedo was a resident of Iron county for the past 46 years.
He is survived by his wife, Hilma; one daughter, Gail of Battle Creek; one step-son, Oliver Peltonen, Milwaukee; three step-daughters, Mrs. Earl Rutz of Los Angeles, Calif.; Mrs. Lila Woodward, Atlantic City, N.J. and Mrs. Raymond Beck, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.; three sisters, Mrs. Mary Visintainer, Iron Mountain, Mrs. Clarence Charbonneau, Milwaukee, Mrs. Eugene Veronski, Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Peter Pedo, Stambaugh; and many nieces and nephews.
Services were held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 3, in the LaFave Funeral Home, with Rev. Fr. John Arneth, Pastor of the Blessed Sacrament Church, officiating, with burial in Stambaugh Cemetery.
The pallbearers were Milton Choquette, Ray Bengry, Tony Bertetto, Clayton Youngren, Amelio Balducci and Carl Nieminen.
Mrs. Donald McDonald, organist, accompanied Mrs. John Cederna as she sang “O God of Loveliness” and “Soul of My Saviour.”
Services were in charge of the LaFave Funeral Home.

INFORMATION FROM RELATIVE niece Margaret McCarthy ([email protected]) of Illinois says Otto's first marriage was to Mary Denis on Jan 1 1928 he age 25 she age 27. There were no children, and it is unknown what happened to her. Otto and Hilma were married May 18 1939 in Iron County.
