Violet M. Pinkerton, 85, of 1016 Jay St., died Wednesday evening at her home, where she was under the care of her family and Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.
Mrs. Pinkerton worked at Ogdensburg Silk Mill, at Acco and in the cafeteria at St. Mary's Academy until it closed in 1969. She then worked at Cameron's Cleaners.
She was a communicant of St. Mary's Cathedral, a volunteer at the St. Vincent de Paul Store and a religious instruction teacher. She was also active in the Women's City Club. She enjoyed playing poker, fishing and gardening.
Born July 21, 1918, in Ogdensburg, daughter of John and Lucy LaFave Tyo, she attended Ogdensburg schools, including St. Peter's, Holy Cross and St. Mary's.
She married Arthur J. Pinkerton on Aug. 3, 1938, at Notre Dame Church with Monsignor A.D. Charbonneau officiating. The couple lived on Jay Street in a house built by Mr. Pinkerton . He died May 29, 1993.
Surviving are two sons and their wives, two daughters and their husbands, a daughter-in-law, 14 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A son, James A.; two sisters, Peg Ladouceur and Genny Vielhauer, and four brothers, Morris, Adrian, Carl and Chuck Tyo, died before her.
A prayer service will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Fox-McLellan Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 in St. Mary's Cathedral with the Rev. Terry R. LaValley, rector, and the Rev. Jay Seymour, a family friend, officiating. Entombment will be in Foxwood Memorial Park.
