JOHN W. KENTON

John Willis Kenton, son of Wm. H. and Mary C. Kenton, was born near Confidence, Iowa on December 28th, 1882 and passed from this life at the Albia Hospital July 24, 1947, at the age of 64 years, 6 months and 26 days.

During his early years the family moved to Russell, where he grew to manhood. He then went west, and after spending some time on a ranch in Nebraska he began working for the Burlington R.R. as a foreman at McCook, Nebr.

From there he went south, where he was employed by the Mexico and Orient R.R. for 11 years, during which time he was promoted to engineer and later to Round House foreman.

On July 10th, 1913, he was married in Decatur, Ill. to Ina May Seiber, and the new home was established in Altus, Okla. After a few years they moved to Powell, Wyo., later returning to Altus.

On March 1st, 1922 they began farming near Russell, Iowa and with the exception of 1 year in DeQueen, Ark., they resided in this vicinity until March 1, 1936, when they moved to the present farm home near Moravia, Iowa.

Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kenton: Mary Ellen, who died in infancy; Roy M. of Greenwich, R. I.; John R. of San Diego, Calif.; Faye Ruth and Dorothy Jane, both living at home.

The wife and mother passed away on March 6, 1936, just a few days after they had moved to Moravia. He was also preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Nevada J. Foster.

Besides the sorrowing children, he leaves to mourn his passing one sister, Mrs. Ada Ashba, and one brother, Martin J. Kenton, both of Russell.

Throughout his life John made friends wherever he went and was highly respected as an industrious and upright citizen. His interests centered around his home and the welfare of his loved ones. He will be greatly missed in the home, the community and by all who knew him.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 29th at the Russell Baptist church and interment was in the Russell cemetery.
