Jeannette was the daughter of Calvin M. & Carrie A. (Smith) Latham & she grew up on family farms in Liberty Township, Delaware County, OH, & in Norwich Township, Franklin County, OH. At age 21, Jeannette appears on the 1880 Federal Census living in the town of Delaware, OH, with her maternal grandparents Alva & Amelia "Abbie" Smith. Jeannette then listed her occupation as "school teacher." On the 1900 Census Jeannette was listed as head-of-household still living in Delaware and still teaching school. At that time, Jeannette's 19-year-old sister Gertrude E. Latham was living with her. By the time of the 1920 Census, Jeannette was living in the Delaware County village of Ostrander in the household of her then married sister, Gertrude. At the time of sister Gertrude's 1939 death, Jeannette was living in Hollywood, CA. The following unidentified obituary is included with Jeannette's Oak Grove Cemetery record: "Miss Jeanette(sic) Latham, teacher in Delaware for 35 years, is dead. Miss Jeanette (sic) Latham, 90, former teacher, died at the home of a niece, Mrs. Jeannette Perry, 20 & 1/2 North Franklin St. Tuesday. Mrs. (sic) Latham was born in Delaware (sic) and until her retirement had taught 35 years in Stratford & Delaware. She has made her home in California & Arizona for several years, returning here (Delaware) in June to make her home with her niece.
