Claude Area, Soldier, Dies at Hospital

Claude Ray Area, 69, Soldier, died Tuesday night at Community Hospital in Onaga, where he had been a patient for several weeks. He had cancer.

He was born February 4, 1913, at Westmoreland, the son of Arthur and Nancy Walker Area. He moved from Westmoreland to Soldier in 1944.

Mr. Area was an independent trucker for many years and was associated with his wife in the upholstery business.

He was married to Blanche Haber on January 24, 1937, at Manhattan. She survives at the home.

Other survivor include two daughters, Mrs. Wilma Jean Sheetz, Topeka, and Mrs. Betty M. Bernritter, Havensville; five sons, Don Area, Havensville; Bill Area, Overton, Nebr., Bob Area, Mayetta, Dick Area, Albonito, Puerto Rico, and Jack Area, Topeka; four sisters, Mrs. Mabel Shaw and Mrs. Dorothy Lamb, both of St. George, Miss June Area, Burlington, Iowa, and Mrs. Lucille Wimmer, Palmer, Alaska; one brother, Clifford Area, St. George; 19 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will be in Soldier cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Farmers State Bank, Circleville.
