Mildred M. Swanson, 96, of Heritage Green Rehabili-tation and Skilled Nursing, formerly of Lake Panasoffkee, Fla., and 2832 Bentley Ave., Jamestown, died at 10:35 p.m. Thurs-day, April 9, in the nursing home.
A Jamestown area resident for many years and returning in 1990 she was born Aug. 7, 1912, in Sparta Township, Crawford Co., Pa., the daughter of Orvy V. and Lillian R. Culp Van-derhoof.
She was the widow of Oscar T. ''Ted'' Swanson whom she married June 20, 1928, and died Feb. 14, 1977.
Mrs. Swanson was a sales clerk and seamstress at Nelson's Department Store and Zuckerman's and retired from the shoe department at Bigelow's Department Store.
Surviving are a son Gerald E. (Nancy) Swanson of Jamestown; eight grandchildren: Dr. Jeffrey L. (Linda) Swanson of Erie, PA, Shelley L. (David) Sandquist and Susan L. Swanson all of Falconer, Timothy E. (Janice) Swanson of Jamestown, Kevin (Jenny) Swanson of Mentor-On-Lake, Ohio, Shawn M. Swanson of Philadelphia, Pa., and Alan T. Swanson, Jr of State College, Pa., and Kelly M. Swanson of Harrisburg, Pa.; five great-grandchildren; and a sister Thelma Silvis of Corry, Pa.
Besides her husband she was preceded in death by three sons: Merlin M. Swanson, who died in 1940, Brian L. Swanson in 1998, and Alan T. Swanson, who died in 1989; a grandson, Kory Swanson, who died Aug. 26, 2007; four sisters: Louise Long, Lila Darling, Eva Munn and Myrtle Vanderhoof; and two brothers: Melvin and Lawrence Vanderhoof.
