Thomas Jefferson Hedge, 71, of Snowville, died Monday afternoon, August 1, 1994, at his home. He had prostate bone cancer. He was born in Montgomery County on March 20, 1923 and was the son of the late Irvin Hedge and Doris Simpkins Hedge. Mr. Hedge was preceded in death by a step-mother, Ruby Dickerson Hedge, Pulaski, a sister, Hilda Hedge Brown, Gambrills, MD, and a brother, Daniel W. Hedge, Sophie, WV. He was a retired employee of Burlington Industries Klopman Mills Division of Dublin, where he worked for 37 years. Mr. Hedge was a veteran of World War II having served in the U. S. Navy as an Armed Guard. He was on the board of directors for the American Cancer Society for 20 years. Mr. Hedge was a member of the Cecil's Chapel United Methodist Church. Surviving are his wife, Marie Dishon Hedge, Snowville; a daughter, Lydia H. Bell, Hopewell; four sons, John J. Hedge, Pulaski, Douglas L. Hedge, Pulaski, Donald A. Hedge, Pulaski, James J. Hedge, Snowville; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Mabel Hedge McPeak, Snowville; two brothers, Jesse J. Hedge, Radford, Luther A. Hedge, Radford; a half-sister, Helen Hedge Biggs, Pulaski; three half-brothers, Gene Hedge, Pulaski, Frank Hedge, Pulaski, Cecil Hedge, Snowville. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. from the Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Wilson Newman officiating. Entombment will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Dublin. Visiting will be Tuesday evening at Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family wishes that donations be made to the American Cancer Society, or to the New River Valley Hospice, Inc.
