Final Rites Held Here For James M. Glass
Funeral services for James Mallieu Glass, well-known Taylor County resident, were held August 22 at the State Street Shum-Novinger Funeral Home, conducted by Rev. John D. Kerr. Mr. Glass died Aug. 19, 1965 at Clarinda Municipal hospital at the age of 77 years, nine months and seven days. Interment was at Fairview Cemetery, Bedford.

Included in the services was the following obituary.

James Mallieu Glass, son of Franklin and Mary Newberry Glass, was born Nov. 12, 1887 in Lee county, Virginia.

He was married to Nora Ellen Baker on Oct. 15, 1912.

To this union were born seven children: Henry and Donald of Bedford, Palmer and Ray of Moses Lake, Wash.; three daughters, Mrs. Hazel Miers, Clarinda, Ia., Mrs. Mary Miers, Gravity, Ia., and Mrs. Pauline McCune, Bedford; a niece, Mrs. Thelma Yeary of Rose Hill, Va., was also raised in the home.

As a young man he united with the Methodist Church in Lee County, Va., and later transferred his membership to the Methodist Church in Bedford.

With his wife and children he moved to Missouri in 1924, and later moved to Page and Taylor counties in Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nora Ellen, his parents, six sisters and one brother.

He later married Mrs. Bertha Johnson of Kyles Ford, Tenn., who survives him.

He is survived by seven children, 23 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. H. F. Watson and Mrs. W. W. Elkins of Jonesville, Va.; three stepchildren, Jack Johnson, Kyles Ford, Tenn., Mrs. Emmer Kinsler of Blackwater, Va., and Mrs. Irene Ford, Palm Beach, Fla.

His later life was spent enjoying his family and the out-of-doors. He wi1l be greatly missed by a host of relatives and friends.
