Mary Faye (Glass) Miers was born April 10, 1918, in Dot, Virginia. She was the daughter of James Mallieu Glass and Nora Ellen (Baker) Glass. She grew up with four brothers, two sisters and foster sister. The family moved to Missouri in 1924, and then to Iowa in 1927. She graduated from the Clarinda High School with the Class of 1936. In 1937, she was united in marriage to Lawrence Pershing Miers. The couple made their home in the Clarinda, New Market, and Gravity areas, where they were blessed with the birth of five children, Jerry, Bill, Melvin, Nora and Cindy. The family farmed in the early years, raised parakeets, trapped and did carpentry work. Mary was always there beside her husband.
In 1964, on Cindy's 5th Birthday, Mary went to work at the Clarinda Mental Health Institute as a Nursing Aid. After 18 years of faithful service, she retired. Mary and Lawrence held a huge 2 ring auction, down sizing to an apartment in Bedford. Lawrence passed away in 1995 and Mary spent her last four years at the Bedford Nursing & Rehab Center.
Mary was baptized in Virginia in the Baptist Church. She was a member in later years of the Gravity United Methodist Church and the First Baptist Church in Bedford.
Left to cherish the memories of a wonderful mother and grandmother are her five children, Raymond (Jerry) Miers and wife Joan of Lavista, Nebraska; William (Bill) Miers and wife Arieta of New Market, Iowa; Melvin Miers and wife Linda of Des Moines, Iowa; Nora Jane Popelwell and husband Mike of Albany, Missouri; and Cynthia Thomson and husband Rich of Bellview, Nebraska; two sisters-in-law, Betty Glass of Bedford, Iowa; and Dorothy Glass of Moses Lake, Washington; along with seventeen grandchildren; thirty great-grandchildren, all of who have memories of special times at Grandma Mary's, like her homemade noodles!

Preceding Mary in death were her parents, her loving husband of 58 years, Lawrence; four brothers, Henry, Palmer, Donal and Ray; two sisters, Hazel Miers and Pauline McCune; a foster sister, Thelma Yeary; two brothers-in-law, Harold Miers and Harold McCune; two sisters-in-law, Helen Glass and Dorothy Glass; and a great-granddaughter, Marilyn Rose Miers.

Mary will be missed by her entire family.
We will hold the memories of her gentle spirit as a wonderful gift.

Arrangements were entrusted to the Ritchie Funeral Home of Bedford.
