Robert T Owens, 48, of 4222 Hall, President of genesis Press, was killed here in a traffic accident Monday afternoon.
Accident investigator B T Galindo said Owens was driving northbound in the 3100 block of Stemmons Freeway when his vehicle suddenly veered from the center lane and struck a
bridge support abutment. Owens was trapped in the wreckage and was dead on arrival at Parkland Hospital.
A native of Dallas, he had lived here most of his life. He was the son of the late Rev George W Owens, a Methodist minister of Dallas.
Owens was a graduate of Highland Park High School and had attended Columbia University. He was an Army Air Force veteran stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. He was executive editor of Droke House Publishers and of Quote Magazine from 1964 to 1967.
During 1967, he founded Genesis Press, a national book publishing house in Dallas. Owens was th author of a play "1984" based on George Orwell's book of that name
and a novel entitled "Death of Seaman." He was a member of the Lotus Literary Club of New York and American Publishers Association. He was also a member of the First
Methodist church of Dallas.
Survivors: Mother, Mrs George W Owens of Dallas, and three sisters, Mrs Dorothy P Owens* of Dallas, Mrs D Wayne Jacobson of Grand Rapids, Minn and Mrs Jerry Stokes of Denver Colo.
