Minerva Hawley was born to Ozias and Sarah Spring Hawley of Berkshire County, Mass. She migrated with her parents and eventual husband Roswell Sage to Freedom Township, Ohio in 1828. She and Roswell Sage were married on January 15, 1829 in Portage County. To their marriage were born seven children: Harriet (Hurlburt), Harvey H., Charles R., Oliva (Tuttle), Dwight R., Roseville G., and Clarence H.
