Samuel R. Gard, age 68, of Richmond, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at his residence.



He was born Oct. 28, 1940, in College Corner, Ind., to Pearl and Sarah Inman Gard and had lived in this area most of his life.

Samuel was a graduate of Boston High School and had worked at Silgan.

Survivors include two daughters, Angela Kidwell (David) of Merritt Island, Fla., and Pamela Gard of Parker City, Ind.; three sons, Daniel Gard (Karen) of Lancaster, Pa., Christopher Gard (Helen) of Wentzville, Mo., and Clinton Gard (Kelly) of Rochester, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; three sisters, Nina Houser and Doris Pickering, both of Richmond, and Wanda Aukerman (Jack) of Eaton, Ohio; one brother, Fred Gard (Pat) of Richmond; nieces, nephews; and friends to include special friend Patsy Cassel of Richmond.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Sarah Gard; one brother, Robert Gard; and two sisters, Mary Grove, and Marjorie Pelfry.

Memorial service for Samuel R. Gard will be 6 p.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road W., Richmond, Indiana. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery.
