He married his wife, Stella Adeline Wiley, in Altoona on April 22, 1911. Soon after their marriage, they moved to Dewey, Oklahoma so he could start work at the Dewey Portland Cement Company. He remained employed there for 45 years and retired in 1956.
Stella and John had six children: Helen Louise (Eller) Bartlett (1911-1991), George Everett Eller (1915-1998), James Wilkerson Eller (1918-1995), Willa Mae (Eller) Case (1922- ), Elizabeth Irene (Eller) Brockhouse (1926- ), and Barbara Ledora (Eller) Anderson (1929- ).
John died on November 25, 1975 at the age of 82 in Dewey, Oklahoma. John's funeral was held at the Dewey First Christian Church of which he had been a member for over sixty-three years. His grandsons, Michael Wayne Brockhouse, Larry Case, Gerald Case, John Bartlett, Wayne Bartlett, and Ronald Butts, served as his pallbearers.
