James Thomas Moore was born 10 Feb 1860 at Belk, Fayette Co., AL, son of Robert and Mary Catherine Medcalf Moore.

James Thomas married Ellen Louella McCay Estes 12 Nov 1882 in Fayette Co., AL. They had 12 children; Lizzie, Robbie, Tommie, Mellie, Mattie, Davy, Dora, Jonas, Annie (twin died at birth), Bessie & Charlie.

He lived all his life and died within a mile of where he was born. He sold the home place to his youngest son Charlie and he and Ellen lived the remainder of their life there with his family.

In his later years he exhibited special love for the younger children and spent a lot of his time taking care of them. He was not able to work most of the time therefore he would watch after the children. When the children began to do chores both in and outside the home he would always watch over them such as milking the cows he always sat on the sill at the back of the barn of the stables and he would help get corn to feed the chickens, and mules.

James Thomas Moore and Ellen L. Estes Moore deeded two acres of land to Harmony Baptist Church located within the boundries of their property. They were charter members. Church still meets there every other month on the third Sunday.

His request was to be buried there, however when he died 10 Apr 1941 there had been no cemetery started so he was buried at Antioch Cemetery where other family members are buried.
