Verna L. Chapman of Bedford, IN, died Saturday, April 15, 2000 at Hospitality House. Born on October 10, 1917, in Martin County, IN, she was the daughter of Elmer and Amanda (Price) Spinks. She married Kenneth E. Porter and he preceded her in death. She married Bill Chapman, and he preceded her in death.

Surviving are one daughter, Sharon Kern of Bedford, IN; three brothers: Orville Spinks of New Palestine, IN, Leo Spinks and Dale Spinks, both of Bedford, IN; three sisters: Maude Emery of Indianapolis,, Goldie Little of Kentucky, and Alice Arnold of Bedford, IN; three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sons: Carl Porter and Stephen J. Badgley; one brother, Sam Spinks; and three sisters: Gladys Walker, Inez Mowat and Lois Davenport.

She was a member of the Older Americans in Orleans and was of Protestant faith.

There will be private service for Verna Chapman at a later date. Burial will be in Dishman Cemetery, north of Owensburg, IN. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home. Ferguson-Lee Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
