SCOTT, Willard Jr. was born October 9, 1835 in Naperville, Cook County, Illinois the son of Willard Scott Sr. and Caroline Hawley. He was educated in the Naperville schools and began his business career in his father's mercantile establishment. In 1858 he went to Columbus, Wisconsin and engaged in the banking business. He returned to Naperville in 1861 and was again associated with his father and brother Thaddeus in the mercantile business. He enlisted September 2, 1862 in Company B, 105th Regiment Illinois Infantry as a Second Lieutenant and saw action at Resaca, Peach Tree Creek, West Alatoona, Kennesaw Mountain and Jonesboro. He mustered out on June 7, 1865 at Washington, DC as a Major. In 1867 he bought out his father's interest in the mercantile business, his brother Thaddeus having passed away earlier in 1866. In March of 1868, he married Miss Etta C. Cooper in Columbus, Wisconsin. They had no children. He served as a Deacon and Trustee of the Congregational Church in Naperville. He served the Village of Naperville as Village Trustee in 1869, Village Treasurer 1874 to 1878 and as Mayor, 1895 to 1896 and 1899 to 1900. He was also the first Fire Marshall and also served on the Nichols Library Board. He brought a baby alligator back from Florida in 1894 and it lived until 1914, attaining a length of 12 feet. He affiliated with Euclid Lodge on October 6, 1868 from Columbus Lodge No. 75, Columbus, Wisconsin and was exalted a Royal Arch Mason May 10, 1884. He died March 11, 1932 in Naperville, DuPage County, Illinois and was buried in the Naperville Cemetery.
