Verbal Lee Ireland Simon, age 69, wife of Harry Lee Simon, died Friday, June 30, 1989 at Scott General Hospital in Georgetown, Kentucky, apparently of cancer.

Mrs. Simon was the daughter of John and Mattie Baldwin Ireland.

She was a member of the Great Crossings Baptist Church, First Great Crossings Homemakers, and a former 4-H Council member and leader. Mrs. Simon was a former beautician, schoolteacher, and Department of Human Resources employee.

Surivors in addition to her husband, Harry Lee, were; two daughters, Mrs. Mattie Lou Brown, Louisville, Kentucky, and Dr. Marion Simon, Georgetown, Kentucky; two granddaughters, Julie and Shelley Brown, both of Louisville, Kentucky; five sisters, Mildred Ireland Penn, Nora B. Ireland Brooking (Charles Murray), Alta Wood Ireland Cottrell (John Austin), Ona Mae Ireland Hukill (John Thomas) all of Scott County, Kentucky, and Lucille Ireland Courtney of Carlisle, Kentucky.

Funeral services were conducted Monday July 3, 1989 at Johnson Funeral Home by Rev. G. Todd Toole. Burial was in Crestlawn Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Robert (Buddy) Richardson, Alvin Tuttle, Jackie Lamb, Zack brooking, Roy Tudor, and George Lancaster. Honorary bearers were the Deacons of the Great Crossings Baptist Church.
