Stephen was the son of William White and Hannah Russell. His family had emigrated from Rolvenden in the county of Kent, England. He was born when his family lived in Bucks Co., Pennsylvania near the Schuylkill River. This was not long before they moved up to Kent Co., Ontario, Canada.

Stephen grew up in Raleigh Twp.

He married Harriet Elizabeth West on February 17th, 1847.

Other children include: Oliver Carrol WHITE (1848-1876); Sarah Hannah WHITE (1850-1933); Elsie/Elsy Jane WHITE (b. 1852); John Wesley WHITE (b. !854); Milton William WHITE (1857-bef. 1899); Sy(i)dney Seymour WHITE 1859-1936.
