RICHARD ANDERSON "DICK"
CHESTERTON, IN

Richard "Dick" Anderson, 88, longtime Chesterton barber, passed away Monday, March 30, 2009 after a brief illness.
He was born on March 12, 1921 along with his twin brother to Elizabeth (Schweir) and William Anderson at their home in Liberty Township.
Dick graduated from Liberty High School in 1939. In 1944, he entered the Merchant Marines and was assigned to a Victory ship working to resupply Europe after World War II. Upon returning to Chesterton in 1947, he trained and then opened Anderson's Barber Shop at Broadway and Calumet.
In 1958, Dick married Joann Kiessel in Lake Leelanau, MI. They spent 34 years together before her death in 1992. Together they raised four loving children. Mr. Anderson leaves behind sons: Kevin (Nancy) of Chesterton and Keith of Valparaiso; daughters: Jeanne (Bill) Bruner of Muncie and Kristine (Joseph) Trustey of Wenham, MA.
Richard owned Anderson's Barber Shop for 47 years when he retired and spent his days playing pinochle with his many friends. He was a member of the Liberty Volunteer Fire Department and served on the Liberty Township Advisory Board. He was also a member of the Chesterton Moose Lodge. For the last five years he lived at Clare Bridge Cottage Assisted Living in Valparaiso. His thoughts were always of Chesterton, often asking his family, "What's new in town?" Dick is survived by his brother, Howard of Vero Beach, FL. He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren: Phil, Emily, and Mike Anderson of Chesterton, Whitney, Lauren and Mallory Bruner of Muncie, IN and Andrew, Caroline, Anna and Claire Trustey of Wenham, MA.
He was preceded in death by his twin brother, Robert Anderson; brother, Charles Anderson; and sisters: Mary Heydorn, Florence Dillon and Elizabeth Martinal.
A Mass of Christian Burial with Father James Meade officiating will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 638 N. Calumet Road, Chesterton.
Interment will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Chesterton. The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday April 1, 2009 at the Edmonds & Evans Funeral Home 517 Broadway, Chesterton with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church or to VNA Hospice of Porter County, 501 Marquette Street, Valparaiso, IN 46383. www.ee-fh.com
