Daughter of William Marshall Vickers and Francis Lott Vickers
Wife of George Wiley Williams and matriach of the oldest Williams clan of Coffee County.
Matilda and her husband had a large estate, including thousands of acres of land, a pecan orchard, and had one of the most beautiful homes in the county. Their house had one of the first telephone lines and was wired with electricity, comforts normally found only in the cities. They had a large family and they enjoyed life together.
After her husband's death from Influenza, she continued to care for the farm and carry on with raising her children. Matilda was a credit to her family, a generous, honorable and hard-working member of the community and dearly loved by her children and grandchildren. She is remembered as a prolific gardener and was always saving seeds to add to the orchard and garden. She was an incredible cook and had an impressive herb garden. People knew they could visit her home and come away with containers full of vegetables, and special herbs for making medicines and preserving food. Her family honors her memory and her legacy.
