Gussie Lewis Adams was the firstborn child of Laborn Elijah Adams and and Margaret Victoria Lewis Adams. He was born 5 September 1904 in Susan Moore, Blount County, Alabama. He grew up in Blount County, Alabama.

When he was age 24, he married Annie Ruby Jones 18 August 1929 in Brooksville, Blount County, Alabama. She was the daughter of Andrew Jackson Jones and Lena Leola Garrett Jones. They lived in Brooksville, Blount County, Alabama.

Gussie built a house on property given to them by Annie Ruby's parents. Gussie worked at a saw mill and farmed. He cut the wood to build the house. They remained in Brooksville most of their lives. Gussie was the father of seven children; Donald Lewis Adams, Sue Adams Rigsby, Fred Jackson Adams, Eugene W Adams, Betty Adams, Gladys Adams, and Sammie Adams.

When Gussie was getting too old to farm, he went to work as a handyman for Mr. Griggs who owned the Arabian Motel in Arab. Mr Griggs was also a Chiropractor. Annie cleaned the motel. They moved to Arab in 1963 and eventually sold the farm in Brooksville. Later as the Motel traffic declined, Gussie went to work for Brindlee Mountain Telephone Company as a custodian. He worked there well into his 90s.

Gussie was 91 years of age when he died 8 November 1995 in Arab, Marshall County, Alabama. Gussie and Annie are buried in Arab Memorial Cemetery, Marshall County, Alabama.
