Katherine "Kate Cox Ahlene was the daughter of Harvey Abraham Cox and Katherine Beveridge Cox. Although her birth certificate showed her name spelled with a "K", she always used a "C".She was the 4th of eleven children. Kate was born in Peoria, Illinois and attended schools there and in Moline, Illinois graduating from Moline High School.
She married Richard Cooper "Dick" Ahlene on June 29, 1940 in Moline, Illinois. He died in 1975. She and Dick lived in California for many years where Dick was employed in the Aircraft Industry and other Engineering positions.
Dick died in Calif. and Kate brought him home to be buried at Coal Valley, Illinois. She, herself, moved back to Illinois a short time later, and remained here until her death in 1997. Kate was a recognized hospital volunteer and spent countless hours helping others.
Kate and Dick were never blessed with children.
She is buried in the Coal Valley Cemetery near her husband and parents.
