Harvey was the son of James Judson Cox and Emily Matilda (Mumford) Cox who came to Illinois, from Pennsylvania, in a covered wagon. Harvey was a Coal Miner near Peoria and then Mercer County, Illinois and then worked for, and retired from, John Deere Company. He was married to Katherine "Kate" Beveridge on Dec. 17, 1913 in Rock Island County, Illinois. She was b. 11-16-1894 and d. 05-06-1934. Harvey never remarried following his wife;s death and visited her grave every Sunday. Their daughter, Elsa, recalls that they had to turn around and back up the hill to get to the cemetery in the wintertime because the old tin lizzy car wouldn't make it going forward. Elsa's mother died when she was only five years old. Harvey and Kate are buried side by side and share a headstone.
