Lorraine M. Boos, 86, a resident of Sedro-Woolley, Wash., passed away at her home on Monday, July 21, 2008.

She was born on February 20, 1922, in Hastings, Iowa, the daughter of Weeren and LaNeva (Parker) Bowen. She was raised and attended school in the Hastings area, and after graduating from high school, she attended Peru State Teachers College where she earned her teaching certificate.

On June 2, 1946, Lorraine was united in marriage to Clarence Boos in Hastings, and they made their home on the family farm and they both taught school until they began their family. In the late 1950's they moved to Underwood, Iowa, where Lorraine and Clarence taught school for several years. They then lived briefly in Carroll, Iowa, until moving to Skagit County school district. From 1982 to 1992 she was the librarian at Mary Purcell Elementary School in Sedro-Woolley, from where she retired after 22 years. Lorraine was a member of the Washington Teachers Association, the Retired Teachers Assocation, the Washington Education Association and a member of the Central United Methodist Church in Sedro-Woolley. In her leisure time, Lorraine enjoyed painting, especially landscape scenes, ceramics, reading and going camping.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clarence in 1993; and two brothers, Jack and Jim Bowen.

She is survived by her son, Jerry Boos and wife Barbara of Eatonville, Wash.; daughter, Jane Hansen and her husband Dennis of Sedro-Woolley; two grandchildren, Kelly Boos and Aaron Hansen and wife Melissa; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Charles Seese and Emily Hansen; and 1 nephew, Doug Bowen.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at the Central United Methodist Church in Sedro-Woolley with Pastor Marilyn Kallshian officiating.
