He then married Julia Ann Kinnamon (My G-G Grandma) on Dec. 12, 1868 in Plattsmouth, Cass County, Nebraska. George had seven children altogether between his two wives: (I am unsure which belong to Matilda) Sherman Richard Kearns, Richard Dickson Kearns, Laura Alice Kearns, Charlotte Nellie Kearns (Charlotte was my G-Grandma), LeDora Mae Kearns, Valda Magdalene Kearns and Mary Ethel Kearns.
He served 3 1/2 years in the civil war in the 15th Iowa Infantry, Company F. He served in the bloody battle at Shiloh and fought with Grant at Vicksburg and followed Sherman to the sea. (From his obituary)
He died at age 73 at his home in Walthill from chronic interstitial nephritis (on his death certificate) and gangrene that resulted from a prior blockage from the circulation in his feet. (From his obituary)
