A. S. Carnes (Karnes), one of the pioneer citizens of Plattsmouth, died at 10 o'clock last night at his home, corner Tenth and Granite streets. Mr. Carnes had been a sufferer for some time with a complication of diseases. He was seventy-one years of age, and was the father of Robert Carnes, whose death occurred last week. Mr. Carnes came to Nebraska in 1855 and has been a resident of Cass county ever since. He leaves three children-two sons and one daughter- and four brothers to mourn his demise. He served over three years in the First Nebraska regiment during the civil war. Funeral services will be held at the M. E. church tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock, and interment will be made by the side of his son in Oak Hill cemetery. (Andrew Sampson Karnes is actually buried at Pleasant Ridge cemetery.)

Andrew Sampson Karnes was the son of Jonathan B. Kerns and Cynthia Lee. (Family surname spelled Kerns, Kernes, Karnes and other variations. Andrew married three times. His wives and children are as follows:

Marriage 1: Rebecca A Jackson 1836–1875. Married 16 Jan 1853 in Andrew, Missouri. Children:
John Jackson Karnes 1855–1912
William Henry Karnes 1855– before 1900
Robert Karnes 1859–1900

Marriage 2: married Matilda McClelland 1855–1890 on 24 May 1883 in Cass County, Nebraska. Children:
Myrtle Mae Karnes 1884–1945 m. William Henry Gochenour
James Calahill Karnes 1885–1941

Marriage 3: Mary E Gray Miller Karnes 1836, daughter of Moses Gray and Elizabeth Albinson, married 12 Feb 1893 in Cass County, Nebraska. Mary claimed a Civil War widow's pension in 1907 in South Dakota.
