Mrs. Emily McGlothlin, Pioneer Resident, Dies

Impressive rites were held last Sunday afternoon at the home for Mrs. Emily McGlothlin, 85, pioneer resident of the Raven community.

Mrs. McGlothlin was born and reared on Swords Creek, a daughter of the late
C.C. and Amanda Richardson. She was born March 20, 1852 and was married to Henry J. McGlothlin in 1870. He died some 48 years ago from the effects of stings received from his bees.

Mrs. McGlothlin had a vivid re-collection of the hardships imposed upon the people to this section during and after the Civil war.

She was on of the outstanding older settlers of this community and could recall many interesting incidents in early childhood.

Surviving are the following children: A.L. McGlothin, J.P. McGlothlin, James S. McGlothlin, Henry S. McGlothlin, of Raven, Mrs. H.L. VanDyke, VanDyke, Va. and Mrs. H.C. Plaster, of Swords Creek.

The Rev. E.M. Ritchey, officiating at the services.
It was estimated that nearly 1,500 persons attended the services.
