John Patton McGlothlin, 73, a life long resident of Raven, passed away at a local hospital a few hours after admittance, Friday morning. Mr. McGlothlin was the son of the late Henry and Emily McGlothlin, of Russell County. He followed the vocation of carpenter work, until 1945 when he retired on account of ill health. He is survived by his wife the former Miss Ida Dye, three children, Mrs. Dora Robinson, of Narrows, Mrs. Pearl Horton, one son Clarence of Raven, 15 grandchildren, 9 great grandchildren; also two brothers, James and Henry of Raven, two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Plaster, of Swords Creek, Mrs. Bell Vandyke, of Vandyke, Va.
His body was removed from the Hurst Scott Funeral Home to his residence Friday afternoon. Funeral services were held at the Raven Methodist church Sunday afternoon with Rev. Mabe, of Castlewood, a former pastor in charge assisted by Rev. Albert Ball, Rev.Peery Herndon of Raven. Mr. McGlothlin was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Raven, The following members of the lodge were pallbearers, F.A. Vance, Graham Boyd, Daily Plaster, Fred Herndon, Jack Phillips and W.R. Messick. The lodge had charge of rites at the grave. Burial in Hankins cemetery.
