Carroll Lavelle Cheves, age 82, died May 26, 2000, in League City, Texas. Burial was in Palestine City Cemetery, Palestine, Texas. He was born September 20, 1917 in Plainview, Texas, the son of Eugene Howard Cheves, Sr. and Alma Pearl White.

He worked for the post office and Lone Star Gas company in Palestine for a time. He worked for a contractor at NASA for 32 years and retired in 1982. Carroll was a member of the Merritt Island Moose Lodge from 1969 to 1994 in Merritt Island Florida, and served as govenor for 2 years. He moved back to Texas, to League City in 1994.

Carroll and Novella Estelle Everett Cheves were married on May 15, 1941 and were married for 56 years until her death in 1997. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Saundra Lee Cheves; mother, Alma in 1952; and father, Eugene in 1980. He was survived by his son, James Carroll Cheves; daughter, Shelia Colette Cheves Angeley and husband Jerry Don; and grandchildren, Michael Angeley, and Saria Angeley.

SF 1/c Carroll L. Cheves, son of Mrs. Alma Mauldin, Palestine, husband of the former Novella Everett, attended Palestine High School. Entered the Navy in March, 1942, trained at Great Lakes Naval Training Station, Norfolk, Virginia, and Port Huenema, California; served in the Southwest Pacific; discharged in June, 1945. Received Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Ribbon and American Theater Ribbon.
