"DEATH COMES SUNDAY AFTER A LONG, USEFUL LIFE

Mrs. Jane Kinney dies at advanced age of 79 years--Leaving 65 Direct Living Descendents

The death of Mrs. Jane Kinney on Sunday at noon ended a long, useful and interesting life. Born in Kentucky, May 21st, 1832, and after her marriage in 1849 to Lavalette Kinney, living successively in the then frontier states of Illinois, Nebraska and Kansas, and raising a large family, her life has indeed been a full one. She moved in 1906 to Cashmere with her sons and daughter, Mrs. Cordelia Simpson, with whom she lived when she answered the last summons. Her last illness covering about a month was from general breakdown, caused by old age.

The path of her life's journey was marked with deeds of Kindness and her hand was never weary in ministering unto those whom she loved. "Grandma," as she was known by everyone, well lived her life on earth, and her memory will be cherished as a precious legacy. It is difficult to pay a fitting tribute to her memory. Among her friends and relatives, always willing to aid suffering, to minister unto the sick, to cheer the despondent, she is missed and mourned.

Early in life she embraced the Christian faith and has since lived a consistant and godly life. At the end she was prepared to go, and although fully aware that her life was near to its close, she manifested no dread or fear, but bravely awaited the inevitable. She called for the different members of the family, for her proud children and great grandchildren, talked with them of the past and of the future and left with each farewell messages of love.

Mrs. Kinney has living sixty-five direct descendants. She is the mother of nine children, seven of whom are still living - Mrs. Cordelia Simpson, Mrs. Nettie McKellips, William Kinney, Warren Kinney and J. R. Kinney of Cashmere, John Kinney of Beloit, Kansas, and Mrs. Belle McPherson of Holton, Kansas. There are31 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren, most of whom reside in and around Cashmere.

The funeral services occurred Monday afternoon from the Methodist Church, Rev. W. J. Perdue officiating, who paid a fitting and eloquent tribute to the memory of the deceased. Favorite songs of Mrs. Kinney were touchingly rendered by the choir. The burial was in Cashmere cemetery, the casket being borne by six of her grandsons."
