Obit: The Western Call, Nov. 2, 1894, p-1
"Died - In Salt Creek township, this county, on Oct. 25th, of malaria fever, Lavalette Kinney, aged 68 years, 5 months and 19 days. Deceased came to Mitchell county in 1874, and was beloved by all who knew him, and it can be said that he had not a single enemy, having lived in peace and good fellowship with all his heighbors. He was a consistant christian and was always helpful in all good work in the church, and also outside. He had been a member of the Free Will Baptist church for 44 years and we believe he is now a member of the Church Triumphant on high. He leaves a wife and seven children to mourn his departure. The remains were interred in the beautiful cemetery at Brown's chapel in Bloomfield township, on the 26th. The large attendance at the funeral bore evidence that he was held in high esteem. All felt they had lost a dear friend. Funeral services were held at the house and also at the Brown chapel by Rev. B. F. McMillan, assisted by Elder Michenor of the Methodist church.
B. F. McMillan"
