His task on this earth complete, Fred Howard Stansbury continued on to his next journey July 22, 2004, in Billings, Mont., at the age of 62.
Fred was born June 10, 1942, in Red Lodge, to Fred Stansbury and Freda Kraft. He graduated from Basin (Wyo.) High School in 1960 and joined the Army. After his time in the Army, he went to work for Karl's shoe store. This kept him moving from place to place. He spent time in Montana, Utah, Idaho, Washington and Colorado. He eventually moved back to Montana and worked for Montgomery Wards, Scheels Hardware and as a bartender at the Moose Lodge. After tiring of sales, he went to college to obtain a bachelor of science degree in sociology from Eastern Montana College.
While in school, he managed the B & B Apartments in Billings and did volunteer work for St. Vincent de Paul Hospital. He enjoyed helping people so much, he continued to do volunteer work up until earlier this year and managed the B & B Apartments until his death.
Fred enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, softball (as a player, coach and umpire) and was an avid fan of all sports.
All who knew him liked Fred. He had a friendly personality who drew people. He was as eager to accept friendship, as he was to give it. He would do anything he could to help another out in a time of need. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Through this toilsome world, alas
Once and only once I pass;
If a kindness I may show
If a good deed I may do
To a suffering fellow man,
Let me do it while I can.
No delay, for it is plain
I shall not pass this way again.

Name:
Fred's birth certificate shows Stansbury but was not officially recorded as such until 1942; he went through life spelling it Stansbury in school and in the military. Then he had it changed on his birth certificate as a typo from Stansberry to Stansbury. It probably was Stansberry originally and somewhere it changed.
