Esta Mae Stracener Smith

Funeral services for Esta Mae Stracener Smith, 84, of Sweetwater, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at McCoy Chapel of Memories with Rev. Chris Stevens and Russell Smith officiating. Burial followed at Sweetwater Cemetery under the direction of McCoy Funeral Home.

Smith died Friday, Feb. 27, 2009, at Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital.

She was born June 21, 1924, in Sweetwater. She married Leslie Smith May 22, 1943, in Sweetwater.

Smith was a homemaker and was a member of Broadway Baptist Church. She graduated from Newman High School in 1942. She grew up in Sweetwater and moved to Rosenberg for a time and then moved back to Sweetwater in 1983.

She assisted with her husband's paint contracting business in the Houston area in earlier years and then with their rental properties business locally.

Survivors include two sons, Ronald Leslie Smith and wife Rebecca Jo of Sweetwater and Russell Smith and wife Julia of Abilene; one sister, Barbara Evans and husband Hank of Abilene; three grandchildren, Rachel Ann Smith of Sweetwater, Sabrina Tyler and husband Jason of Noel, Mo. and Glen Russell Smith of Sweetwater; and one great-granddaughter, Tiannah Grace Smith of Sweetwater.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie Smith July 31, 1996.

Pallbearers will be Glen Russell Smith, Russell Reeves, Chuck Browning, Jason Tyler, James Baker and Sam Crenshaw.
