Barbara L. (Stracener) Evans, age 82, died Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Sweetwater Healthcare Center.

Graveside services will be Friday, August 12, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. at Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sweetwater with Tim Hall officiating.

Visitation will be from 7:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.

Barbara was born in Sweetwater on November 29, 1933 to Charley and Estelle (Best) Stracener. Barbara attended Sweetwater schools and in 1949 she married her high school sweetheart, Eldon Browning. He soon joined the U.S. Air Force, but after his tour of duty, they again settled in Sweetwater and reared two children.

Eldon passed away in 1970, and in 1972, Barbara was married to Jesse Faust. Jesse was a Roscoe native, but his job was in Houston and they lived in the suburb of Pasadena, Texas. Jesse passed away in 1981, and in 1984, Barbara married her third husband, Jim Spears, originally from Lake Charles, LA. They lived in Sulphur, LA, then in Houston before retiring in Sweetwater in 1987. Jim passed away in 1991 and Barbara had lived in Abilene, Texas with her fourth husband, Hank Evans, since they married in 1993 until they moved back to Sweetwater in June of 2014.

She was a former employee of Martin Sign Company, Holiday Retirement Center in Sweetwater and National Health Enterprises in the Houston area. During her early adult years in Sweetwater, she was a member of the BPOE Does and the Beta Beta Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi. She had been active in church work since her baptism in 1949, most recently as a member of the Highland Church of Christ in Abilene.

Survivors include her husband Hank Evans of Sweetwater; son Chuck Browning and wife Patricia of Sweetwater; and daughter Kay Farr and husband Dennis of Whitesboro, Texas. Barbara is also survived by her grandchildren, Russell Reeves, Ernie Clark, Rebekah Chrismer and husband Damon, Abigail Bowen and husband Jarod, Sarah Pennington and husband Allen and Kala Farr. She had nine great grandchildren, three step children Cheryl Ritterling, Deborah Evans, Brian Evans and two sisters-in-law Maurine Stracener Jones and Wanda Stracener DeBusk.

Barbara is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Eldon Browning, Jesse Faust, Jim Spears; her brothers Glenn, Cecil and Bernard Stracener and her sister Esta Smith.

The family requests that memorials may be made to Cornerstone Christian School, P.O. Box 917, Sweetwater, Texas 79556.
