Nellie, the oldest of twelve children born to Anderson and Blanche Franklin, has provided the early day history of the Franklin family. From hearing her sister Thelma's newborn cry to the birth of Leonard, she has shared many valuable memories for future generations. Much loved, many descendents share her name of Nellie.
At the age of 86, she was corresponding with Thelma's granddaughter. She worked at something every day - letter writing, piecing quilts, and sewing clothes for herself. She was named for her papa's sister, Sophronia. She remembers meeting two of her papa's brothers (John and Abe) when they came to Texas before going on to Oregon.
She married Sidney Stewart in 1905 and they were the parents of seven children - Eva, Lillian, Lorene, Edith, Bessie, Nathan and Blanche. She later married a Mr. Brewer. In 1974, Nellie lived at 645 North 7th, Chowchilla, California. Nellie died on 25 July 1987. She was 11 days short of being 99 years old.
