Rose Basevi Ord was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. After her marriage to Major James Thompson Ord she lived at various army posts where her husband was stationed throughout the country. He died in 1905. She had resided in San Diego for 20 years where she was active in hospitals and at the Vauclain Home Hospital where she visited the sick. She died at age 67 on Wednesday evening, July 15, 1931 at her home at 3585 Front Street. She had been in failing health for more than a year. Survivors included one son, Major James B. Ord, United States Army, who was the military attaché at the American Legation in Paris, France and three daughters: Miss Lucy Maude Ord of San Diego, Mrs. E.T. Spencer, wife of Major Spencer, United States Army of La Jolla and Mrs. Robert A. Radford, wife of Captain Radford, United States Army, stationed at Washington, D.C. Requiem mass was held at St. Vincent’s Church with Father Dolan officiating. Interment was at Bennington Cemetery on Port Loma. Goodbody’s Ivy Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
