Verna Mae Barber Postman was born on September 10th 1930 to George Howard and Lillie Susan Casey Barber in the Deer Creek community west of Edmond. She passed peacefully from this earth in her home in Edmond on Monday, February 28th 2006 at the age of 75.

Verna was raised primarily on the family farm on Deer Creek, just south of Deer Creek School.. She attended school in Deer Creek, Nobel and Edmond. She graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1948 as an accomplished student earning Salutatorian of her class. She excelled in all areas of academia, but was especially fond of poetry, Latin, and writing. She briefly attended Central State College before marrying Bill Postman, Jr., also of the Deer Creek area. Together, they raised two daughters and were involved both in school and community activities as well as being members of the Hopewell Baptist Church.

Verna was predeceased by her husband, her mother and father and her sister, Marcia Ann Barber Delp. She is survived by her daughters and sons in law, Gloria Ann Postman Bateman
and Ronald Bateman of Houston, Texas and Bonnie and John Bowman of Edmond. She is also survived by her brother, Ivan Barber and Grandchildren, Shawn Bowman of Stillwater, Scott Bowman of Midland, Tx and Michelle Noel of Houston, Tx. She also leaves a host of other relatives and friends.

Services are 10:00 a.m. Friday March 3rd 2006 at Matthews Funeral Home chapel with interment at the Whisler Cemetery in Deer Creek. Services are under the direction of Matthews Funeral home.
