Mrs. Marie Gordon died at her home, about 8 miles southeast of Barnes, Monday, March 18th after a painful illness of about a week. Her death is an unusually sad one as four young children are left without a mother's care. Mrs. Gordon was formerly Marie Sanders, a Barnes girl, who had lived here all of her life until her marriage a few years ago when she moved to the farm. She was a sister of Mrs. Henry Baker and Herman Sanders. The funeral took place Wednesday at 1:30. The sympathy of everyone is extended to the grieving family.

Marie Elizabeth Sander was born in Washington County, Kansas July 10, 1885 and died at her home southwest of Waterville, March 18, 1918, at the age of 32 years, 8 months and 8 days.

She was married to Essick Gordon, January 31, 1906. To this union were born 4 children: Thelma, Esther, Franklin and Willie.

She leaves to mourn her, her husband, 4 children, one sister, one brother and many other relatives and friends. The community has lost a kind friend, a good neighbor. The deceased was only sick a short time and the news of her death was a shock to all.

The sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved husband and children. The funeral, attended by many friends, was held Wednesday afternoon at the home. Rev. C. S. Powell preached the sermon after which the burial took place in the Riverside Cemetery.
