Chris Williams was born in Linn County, Iowa in 1858 to a German immigrant named William Schrimper and his immigrant Norwegian wife, Johanna Halvorsdatter. Johanna died in the fall of 1859. William, apparently feeling he could not raise Chris alone on a farm, left Chris with his grand parents, Halvor Torrisen and Magrethe Hansdatter, who owned a farm just east of Norway, Benton County, Iowa. In Scandinavian fashion, Chris adopted his surname from his father’s first name, but dropped the “son”.

Chris married Caroline Nilsdatter on 27 December, 1883 in Marengo, Iowa. By 1884 when their first son John was born, Chris and Caroline were living in Huxley, Iowa. It appears that by the fall of 1887 when their second son Arthur was born, they were on their way west to Poulsbo, Washington Territory, as Arthur was born in Lehigh, Iowa. The family is listed on the 1889 Territory of Washington Census for Dogfish Bay.

Chris and Caroline homesteaded a section of land on Lincoln Road just southeast of the intersection with Stottlemeyer Road. It was there that their daughter Minnie was born in 1890.

Chris died in 1933 in the home of his son Arthur, which was located on a parcel of the original homestead.
