Caroline Dorthea Nilsdatter was born in Østfold, Aremark, Norway on 12 September 1855 to Nils Olsen and his second wife, Lena Andreasdatter. Caroline was the oldest of five children born to Lena and Nils. She also had five half siblings from Nils’ first marriage. According to census records, Caroline immigrated to the United States around 1880.

Caroline married Chris Williams on 27 December, 1883 in Marengo, Iowa. By 1884 when their first son John was born, Chris and Caroline were living in Huxley, Iowa. It appears that by the fall of 1887 when their second son Arthur was born, they were on their way west to Poulsbo, Washington Territory, as Arthur was born in Lehigh, Iowa. The family is listed on the 1889 Territory of Washington Census for Dogfish Bay.

Chris and Caroline homesteaded a section of land on Lincoln Road just southeast of the intersection with Stottlemeyer Road. It was there that their daughter Minnie was born in 1890.

According to Poulsbo history researcher and author, Judy Driscoll, Caroline was likely the second or third person to interred in the Poulsbo Cemetery.
