William Arthur Sloan, 75, born 22 May 1901, died Wednesday, 26 May 1976, at Wayne Memorial Hospital after a long illness.

Born in an area that is now Brantley County, he was the son of the late John Martin Sloan and Martha F. "Mattie" Flowers Sloan.
He was a member of Sloan Hill church of God of Prophecy and was a retired farmer. He had served on the Brantley County Welfare Board for nine years, and was active in the Farm Bureau.

Surviving are his wife, Mary Lynn Adams Sloan of Hortense; four daughters, Mrs. Ross Flowers of Hortense, Mrs. W. C. Flowers of Jesup, Mrs. Jack Walverton of Winston Salem, NC and Mrs.. Arthur Blaylock Jr. of Crewsview, FL; seven sons, A.B. Sloan of Pensacola, FL, W.S. and Eugene T. Sloan, both of Brunswick, Allen Sloan of Buford, Herschel Sloan of Sicily and Herman E. and Robert D. Sloan, both of Hortense, a sister, Alma Brauda of Hortense; 14 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Sloan Hill Church of God of Prophecy.

Burial was in Hortense Cemetery.
