HORTENSE ‹ Donald Preston Davis, 71, died early Tuesday morning (Aug. 30, 2005) at the Hospice of the Golden Isles in Brunswick.

A native and life long resident of Brantley County, he was retired from Rayonier in Jesup and was a volunteer with Neighbors Helping Neighbors. He was a member of Satilla Baptist Church where he was in the Senior Adult Sunday School class.

He was a son of the late Charlie Preston and Ruth Mae Chancey Davis and was also preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn Lynette Thornton Davis, two sisters, Gloria Roberson and Patricia Sloan, and a brother, Edward Davis.

Survivors are two sons and daughters-in-law, Timmy and Penny Davis and Bruce and Ginger Davis, all of Nahunta; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Jerry and Jeanette Davis and Sammy and Becky Davis, all of Hortense; three sisters-in-law, Sandra Davis, of Hortense, Alveda (Bill) Kirkland and Navonia Bargeron, all of Blackshear; two brothers-in-law, Alvin Roberson, of Hortense, and Hershel Sloan, of Hilliard, Fla.; seven grandchildren, Ashton Davis, Helena Davis, Brandon Davis, Jessica Passieu, Liza Griffin, Roxanne Griffin and Jennifer Sears; one great-granddaughter, Calen Raulerson; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Satilla Baptist Church.

Burial will be in the Satilla Cemetery.

Visitation will be held tonight from 6 to 9 at the funeral home. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Members of the Adult Sunday School class are asked to serve as honorary pallbearers and should meet at the church by 10:30 Thursday morning.
