Ida Rose Harmon Grover, 1911-1994

Ida Rose Harmon was born on July 18, 1911 near Gate, Oklahoma. She was the 6th of 11 children born to Benjamin Winnis and Daisy Ellen Jay Harmon.

The family moved, by truck, to a homestead in Baca County, Colorado in 1921. The young family was left motherless in 1922 and their father passed away in 1927.

In 1928 Ida married Everett Grover, her childhood sweetheart, with whom she had attended Pilot Point School for several years. Ida was 17 and Everett was 18 at the time of their marriage. A daughter, Alice, was born to them in 1929 while they were living in Colorado. Because of the Dust Bowl conditions, they moved to Protection, Kansas in 1930. Three more daughters, Lois, Mary, and Delores were born during the 15 years they spent in Kansas. Ida and Everett farmed and he worked in a family owned garage and hardware store during those years. In 1945 they realized their dream and moved back to Baca County where they farmed until Everett's death in 1972.

Ida was a dedicated wife and mother, and she especially enjoyed her grandchildren, having each one come spend a week when they were five years old.

Ida came to know the Lord in 1972, and loved her church family. She served in several capacities of service in the church for a number of years, especially enjoying serving on the food committee where she made many rolls for the dinners.

After Everett passed away, Ida continued to live in their home until her health failed in 1985 and she was unable to continue alone. She was cared for by her daughters until 1991 when she entered the Springfield Long Term Care Center and lived there until her death on October 19, 1994.

Ida was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, two grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Alice (Walter) Lacy, Lois (Ronald) Lacy, Mary (Jack) Lacy, and Delores (Russell) Cummings, all of Springfield, Colorado; fifteen grandchildren, and thirty-three great grandchildren. Also one sister, Alma (Lawrence) Grover of Delta, Colorado; two brothers, Henry (Ollie) Harmon of Grangeville, Idaho and Ned (Reba) Harmon of Haviland, Kansas, many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
