Alton Lee Dixon of 2117 Gibson Ave., Wilmington, NC, died Tuesday, April 16, 1996, in Cape Fear Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Brunswick County, NC, on May 2, 1913, the son of the late Albert Lee and Beulah Hewett Dixon. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Cameron Dixon, one brother, D.L. Dixon and one sister, Cereta Smith.
Mr Dixon was a member of Gibson Avenue Baptist church, a veteran of WWII, havinf served in the US Navy, and was retired from the City of Wilmington after 37 years of service.
Surviving are one son, William Alton Dixon of Calabash, NC: one daughter, Mrs. Wanda (Suzie) England of Charlotte, NC: his stepmother , Mrs. Ava Dixon of Varnamtown, NC: 5 grandchildren, Sharon Fox, Greg Dixon, Mateus Shannon, Nickolus Shannon and Robbie England; 3 great grandchildren, Carla White, Kelly White and Travis Dixon; 4 sisters, Marlene Varnam, Shirley Little, Myrtie N. Moore and Elsa Mae Deal; and 3 brothers, Clyde Robert Dixon, Tentis Dixon and Jerald Dixon.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, April 19, 1996, in Dixon Chapel United Methodist Church in Varnamtown by Dr. Bill Dixon and Rev. R.C. Dixon and Retired Pastor Rev. Tracy Varnam. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 1 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Andrews Mo.ruary. Market Street Chapel, and at Dixon Chapel United Methodist Church from 1 p.m. Friday until the hour of the service.
