Mary Louise VanMeter was born April 24, 1860, in Washington county, Indiana. On April 23, 1881, she was united in marriage to John Smith, and of this union nine children survive. They are:
Cora of the home, Pearl of Wichita, Mrs. Mable Daniel of Dodge City, Charles, Alfred, Mrs. Edna Smith, William and Mrs. Charlotta Stewart of Winfield and Mrs. Glenda Henderson of Bonner Springs, Kansas.
