John Andrew Smith, 78, died Wednesday at 8 p.m. at his home at 1223 East Eighth. Mr. Smith has had heart trouble and has been seriously ill for over a month.
Mr. Smith was born August 6, 1858, he was married to Miss Mary Van Meter and they took up residence on a farm eight miles southeast of Winfield. Where they lived until 1915 when they moved to their present address.
Surviving Mr. Smith are: Mrs. Smith, his widow; five daughters Miss Cora Smith, Miss Ada Smith and Mrs. Charlotte Stewart of Winfield; Mrs. Mabel Daniel of Dodge City and Mrs. Alma Henderson of Kansas City; four sons, Charles, Alfred and William Smith of Winfield, and Pearl Smith of Wichita.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Morris funeral home. Rev. C. L. Kike of the Free Methodist church will officiate. Burial will be at the Highland cemetery.
